No doubt it is tough economic times, but that does not apply to all sectors. While governments are losing money, they are making up for it in ways that do not involve laying off employees, even at the municipal levels. People who are tired of working at a tube cutter plant all day long might want to check out what work is available in Naperville as a city employee.

There are currently more than 1100 people working in various capacities for the city of Naperville. Like all government employees, they tend to be well paid, with regular working hours and good benefit packages. Accountants can work at developing research and development tax credit plans, and there is work for other professionals too. Even people who lack post secondary education can get good jobs with the Naperville government, provided they meet certain requirements.

Surprisingly enough, one of those requirements is not always that one has to reside in a Naperville zip code. Although some jobs do have residency rules, most do not. If you have experience working in repair rotary valve, for example, it may not matter that you live outside of the Naperville city limits.

Some requirements, however, do matter. For example, no one will be successful in their attempt to drive vacuum pump systems loaded on city trucks if they are not over the age of 18. Also, people should check their speeches on privacy rights at the door. Most positions will require a drug screening, although this does not come until the final stages of the interview process.

The truth is, only people who use drugs regularly would object to tests being used in order to hire city employees. No one likes the idea of having an official who is high on crystal meth making decisions about whether or not they are using too many power distribution blocks in their business. It's only fair to expect any employer to try and avoid hiring a potential junkie.

Generally, Naperville will only hire people to fill vacant positions posted on the city's online job board. If you do see a position open that you are interested in, you have several options. You can apply in person, through mail or email, and online. Do so by selecting your application methods, either with a cover letter and resume, an application form, or all three.
